The long awaited disavow tool is finally available to webmasters who want to disavow or 'annul' links to your site that Google's feels are unnatural links. Bing has already launched one however this is the big announcement, the one thousands of Penguin affected webmasters have been waiting for. This will send Penguin smacked webmasters over the moon with joy as they can finally start removing those hard to remove links they 'somehow' got pointing to their site. I already have a...

Has the exodus begun? First Marissa Mayer leaves Google to take the top spot at Yahoo.. now she decides to poach Henrique de Castro from Google's advertising division for a cool $58 million. The former ex Dell and now ex Google is linked to Google's meteoric success of its advertising and marketing network. She hopes the signing will lead to a boost in their ad revenue market and launch Yahoo into their next phase of growth. What I am mostly interested in...

I couldn't start to tell you how many Spam comments I get per day. Its truly amazing that people are still doing this in the age of all the animal based updates. The funny thing is, a lot of the Spam comes from SEO's! Can can some people not read or do they refuse to believe that what may have worked 5 yrs ago simply won't cut it today. Kinda reminds me of those who religiously invest in property yet...

SEO is constantly changing to the extent that what you used to do at the end of 2011 is so very different to what you do today, not even 12 months on. Its probably one of the most dynamic industries today and in order to stay on the ball, you need to live and breath it. This is one of the reasons having a great SEO is vital, you need someone who is up to date, uses the most recent practices...

Even though way behind Google, Bing has finally released Sitelink extensions for advertisers using their ad network. And guess what? It works! Bing has claimed that by using sitelink extensions, advertisers have seen an increase in CTR by 15-25% compared to standard search ad performance. I tried to do a few searches here in Australia but no sitelink extensions came up for either my clients or anyone else so I am assuming the global roll out is still not in effect. I...

Google's updated and 'weather reports' don't seem to stop do they? Yet another update from the search giant as they update their page layout algorithm. The page layout algorithm is essentially Google's attempt to weed out sites which require you to trawl through ads and banners to find the content you want. Google wants a good chunk of content above the fold so users don't have to scroll down and look for the content. It makes sense but then it gets...

To take the burden of paying for Adwords credits, Google has released its own credit line called Adwords Business Credit. Teeming up with Barclays Bank in the UK and Comenity Capital in the US, Google is issuing credit cards to only to be used with Adwords. Currently this is only available in the UK and the US but the revenue from this must be pretty huge considering the size of the Adwords advertiser market. A great business move by Google but...

The long awaited Penguin refresh has been announced and I'm slightly dissapointed. I expect something really big but Matt Cutts on Twitter says it will only affect 0.3% of English queries. This is especially surprising considering that Matt said the following words about the next Penguin refresh: you don’t want the next Penguin update.. [the updates will be] jarring and jolting Browsing through the webmaster forum it seems to be anything but jarring or jolting with a very much muted effect. Since this...

There is nothing more frustrating than getting a hard earned review uploaded by a client, just to have it removed for no particular reason other than.. well.. no reason! I have seen this occur more and more recently with Google coming down hard on reviews and in many cases, for no apparent reason. Yes some dodgy and fake reviews end up getting the boot but along with those go a large number of perfectly legitimate ones. Is Google looking at filtering...
