i kind of got over all the Panda updates.. Google would release very little information about the updates and the refreshes and simply point us towards the original Panda release. A new update was released which wasn't simply another refresh but an amendment or update to the original algorithm. The funny thing was that a lot of the Panda talk was muted due to the latest EMD update penalising low quality exact match domains. In fact a whopping 2.4% of English searches...

Google Maps strikes again with international numbers confusing Google resulting in some irregular phone numbers. We had this recently occur with a client when we activated their Google+ page on top of their Google Places page (yes.. it is confusing!). The fix of this problem is quite simple, just login in and change the number on your places as well as your Google+ page. Makes me wonder whether it was worth obtaining a Google+ page in addition to the Google places page.....

I missed the official tweet but just saw this on Search Engine Roundtable which I thought was very interesting regarding "exact match domains". It wasn't very long ago when new businesses bought a url based on the keyword it matches. Now Google is wanting to come down on businesses trying to set up websites to target keywords using EMD's or "exact match domains". Even though Matt Cutts on Twitter said it will only effect 0.6% of search results and it targeted low...

Believe it or not Google is 14 yrs old now. I remember it when Altavista and Yahoo were the biggies and I simply used it as my home default page because it loaded so quickly. After all it was 1 small image and pretty much no text.. On my 286 Pentium whatever, I needed something simple and Google gave it to me. 14 years on and even though the homepage is the same.. its anything but. It was created a world...

We all know the benefits of using sitelinks when advertising in Adwords. Its a great way to take up more real estate on the front page and also direct users to pages that they may also find useful on your site. I wrote an article recently about a few sitelink tips that Google didn't seem to mind. Well Google is now frowning upon not using unique sitelink urls for all new sitelink ad extensions being created. In the initial stages Google...

Yesterday Google send out an email to those subscribed to Webmaster tools explaining that Webmaster Tools will now be sending automated emails if there are critical or important issues detected about your site. Key phrase for me is this: We'll only send you email for issues that we think have significant impact on your site's health or search performance which have clear actions that you can take to address. For example, we'll email you if we detect malware on your site or...

The Panda refreshes just keep on coming don't they? Keeping up with their release style, Google tweeted this update via their A Googler account then forwards you to the same old page about what Panda is. What they have confirmed is that only 0.7% of searches will be 'noticeably' affected by this refresh. Not sure what the definition of 'noticeably' is but I have a feeling its a little blurred. I have seen a bit of movement but nothing too drastic. Still waiting...

One of the most annoying thing that I have found using Adwords is when a client has a specific budget for their campaign, which you then break down into multiple campaigns, requiring you to work out daily budget for each campaign. Inevitably one campaign does not meet budget and the other has a load of lost impressions due to the budget not being sufficient. The balancing act has now been aided by Google releasing shared budgets in its Adwords platform allowing...
